SPROCKETS CD-ROM LIBRARY
How to Write a Film Review
As a new Sprockets initiative, we have developed an exciting and comprehensive CD-ROM on writing film reviews, working in collaboration with Barbara Csenge, a long-time educator who has written curriculum and instructional material for the Ministry of Education. This colourful CD-ROM, playable on most PC and Mac computers, is an excellent tool for helping students develop their communication and critical thinking skills. It includes curriculum links to ensure students are fulfilling Ministry standards, materials to teach students how to analyze a film (plots, characters, sound, etc.), and a full film review guide.
Bluebird: Beyond Bullying
Created as an accompaniment to Bluebird, a film from the Netherlands by Mijke de Jong, the CD-ROM tackles the important subject of bullying. Bluebird premiered at the 2004 Toronto International Film Festival and had several screenings during the School Week of the 2005 Sprockets Toronto International Film Festival for Children. The CD-ROM contains information and activities to promote awareness and discussion within the classroom, at the same time providing links to the curriculum. While the CD-ROM was created to complement the film it stands on its own as an effective tool for educators looking for ways to explore the subjects of bullying through film and music. Created by Barbara Csenge in April 2005.
Reel Eyes - A Guide to Documentary Film
In collaboration with Barbara Csenge, a long time educator who has written curriculum and instructional material for the education sector, we have developed a CD-ROM on documentary filmmaking. The CD-ROM includes curriculum links, resources that assist teachers to ensure students are fulfilling Ministry standards, and a feature interview with renouned documentary Lalita Krishna. Lalita has over 18 years of experience producing such documentaries as Ryan's Well and Tiger. Created March 2006.
